Nutrition E-Learning Portal Expanded For Female Players, Parents And Coaches

The IRFU today launched an expanded version of the Eat2Compete e-learning sports nutrition portal which now offers a bespoke programme for female players and a ‘lite’ version for players, coaches and parents.

The nutrition e-learning platform is accessible via the Irish rugby website and aims to improve nutrition knowledge and habits across the breadth of the rugby community, with easy to understand videos and simple tips on everything from building a healthy immune system to preparing match day meals, hydration and post-match recovery.

The content has been designed by the IRFU performance nutritionists with input from professional players and the latest scientific evidence.

This season the IRFU Nutrition team will also offer regular advice and tips, drawn from the e-learning platform – on healthy eating and hydration for rugby. These tips will appear on Irish Rugby social media channels at regular intervals and will be relevant to the stage of the season in order to aide those seeking to get a performance edge through smart food choices.

Gavin Rackard, IRFU performance nutritionist, said: “When we originally launched this e-learning resource in 2012 it was specifically tailored for male players aged between 14-19. The success of the programme has driven demand to expand the scope of the programme and resulted in the creation of a bespoke female nutrition e-learning course and a ‘lite’ version which parents, coaches and teachers can access.

“The aim is to provide healthy and effective food first options for young rugby players – male and female – to support their performance goals.”
