Ireland Down Under: Player Recovery Day

Monday in Melbourne means a recovery session for the starting XV from Saturday’s first test. The medical team put the players through some specific gym and pool work to assess their recovery levels after a high intensity match. And there’s ice baths!

Ireland team doctor Ciaran Cosgrave outlined what the players have to do “We’re two days post-game so the players are undergoing their recovery protocol which involves some soft tissue therapy massage, a pool recovery session, ice baths and an active recovery element in the gym.”

Speaking about the session, physiotherapist Keith Fox said “This morning we had them in the gym working on getting the bodies moving, then we get them into the pool as the hydro-static pressure helps.”

Meanwhile the rest of the squad went for a gym session as part of their daily routine. Check out the photo gallery on facebook
