Knee Injury Victim O’Donoghue Set For Scan

Following Munster’s 16-15 defeat to Leinster in Saturday’s GUINNESS PRO14 semi-final, Jack O’Donoghue and JJ Hanrahan have both been assessed for the first half injuries that forced them to be replaced.

Young flanker Jack O’Donoghue sustained a knee injury when his leg was caught in a ruck during the interprovincial derby at the RDS. He will undergo a scan and see a knee specialist to determine the extent of the injury.

Munster head coach Johann van Graan said of the injury after the game: “That seems pretty serious. Look, Jack was just sitting there in the changing room in a lot of pain. I can’t comment on the extent. I mean, with luck he could be all right but I think it’s serious.”

JJ Hanrahan, who wore the number 10 jersey for the Munstermen on Saturday,  was replaced at half-time due to a hip pointer injury and is expected to make a full recovery.

Second row Jean Kleyn will use the off-season to undergo a required ankle procedure and will follow his rehabilitation programme over the pre-season period, and, similarly, hooker Rhys Marshall will use the off-season to undergo surgery on an AC joint injury.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Gerbrandt Grobler will join Gloucester next season having spent one year with Munster. The South African lock made 11 appearances for the province and scored a late try at the RDS on Saturday.
