Over 1.3 Million Watch Ireland Win Grand Slam On TV3

‘Grand Slam Saturday’ proved a ratings winner on TV3 as 1,328,000 viewers watched Ireland’s superb 24-15 victory over England at Twickenham where Joe Schmidt’s men lifted the NatWest 6 Nations trophy.

The much-anticipated match on St. Patrick’s Day delivered an average audience of 951,000, making Ireland’s historic Grand Slam triumph the most-watched programme on Irish television this year. A further 100,000 viewers tuned in to watch England v Ireland live on 3player.

With a record-breaking all day share of viewing of 35.4% for the TV3 Group on Saturday, their Director of Programming, Bill Malone, said: “Ireland’s historic Grand Slam win over England at Twickenham on Saturday was the perfect ending to TV3’s first NatWest 6 Nations tournament. It truly was a national event, and with over 1.3 million viewers tuning in during the course of the game, it is the most watched television programme this year.”

The impressive viewing figures for last weekend’s conclusion of the 2018 Six Nations follow on from the announcement that TV3 have secured the rights to screen one live match per round during the Champions Cup pool stages over the next four seasons, as well as one live match from each of the knockout rounds.
