Ulster Confirm They Will Not Proceed With Donald Signing

Ulster have released a statement confirming that former New Zealand out-half Stephen Donald (34) will not be joining the province due to injury.

“Unfortunately, Ulster Rugby is not in a position to proceed with the signing of Stephen Donald, after receiving a medical report on the player yesterday (Sunday),” read the statement.

“Stephen had agreed a short-term deal to join the province, but he sustained an injury while representing his club in the final game of the Japanese season, which will rule him out for four-plus weeks.

“The timeline now makes it very difficult to find a suitable replacement, but we will continue to monitor the market.”

Ulster, whose Champions Cup hopes were ended by Wasps yesterday, were looking to bring in an experienced number 10 as Australia international Christian Lealiifano is heading back home after a successful short-term stint with the province.
