Video Highlights/In Pics: Ireland Hold Coaching Clinic In Hamamatsu

On the eve of the first Test against Japan, members of the Ireland squad and coaching team held a coaching clinic with schoolboys from the Shizuoka Prefecture.

Following the Captain’s Run on Friday, the Irish contingent made their way to a local sports ground to meet and train with boys from several schools in the Shizuoka Prefecture.

The boys were in for a treat as the Ireland coaching group of Joe Schmidt, Simon Easterby, Richie Murphy, Greg Feek and visiting coach Girvan Dempsey put the young players through their paces in a variety of skills and drills.

The coaches were ably assisted by Sean Reidy, James Ryan, John Cooney and Josh van der Flier who pitched in with the warm-up and at the different drill stations.

Speaking on behalf of the Ireland group, team manager Paul Dean said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the coaches and the players to meet the local players and to give something back to the game. A tour like this offers everyone a chance to experience different cultures and we were delighted to be asked to run the coaching clinic here today.”

The boys were hugely enthusiastic and thanked the Ireland coaches and players with a rousing chorus of ‘Ireland’s Call’ to finish off the day with a smile.
