Ulster Confirm ‘Significant’ Ankle Injury For Olding

The Ulster Rugby medical team have issued an injury update ahead of Saturday evening’s sold-out GUINNESS PRO12 derby encounter with Leinster at Kingspan Stadium (kick-off 5.15pm).

Experienced back rower Chris Henry is progressing well following a recent calf muscle tear and it is hoped that he will be available for the interprovincial clash this weekend.

Ruan Pienaar (back spasm), Charles Piutau (elbow hyper-extension) and Stuart McCloskey (left thigh haematoma) suffered injuries during the round 21 defeat to the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium.

All three players are undergoing treatment and it is hoped that they will be available for selection against PRO12 leaders Leinster.

Meanwhile, centre Stuart Olding sustained a significant left ankle injury shortly after coming on against the Ospreys in the second half. He will see an ankle specialist today to decide on further management.

The following players are also unavailable for selection this weekend – Marcell Coetzee (knee), Jared Payne (ankle), Tommy Bowe (ankle), Darren Cave (vestibular dysfunction), Rob Lyttle (shoulder), Clive Ross (knee), Lorcan Dow (ankle), Johnny Simpson (neck), Matthew Rea (hamstring) and Johnny McPhillips (groin).
