Ireland Quartet Return To Training With Leinster

Ahead of the GUINNESS PRO12 game away to Benetton Treviso on Sunday, Leinster backs coach Girvan Dempsey has given an injury update from the province’s base in UCD.

There was good news for the returning quartet of Mike Ross, Dave Kearney, Fergus McFadden and Joey Carbery who will all take part in training this week and should be available for selection.

Carbery, who made his Ireland debut just last November, is itching to be involved in his first RBS 6 Nations campaign, as former Ireland full-back Girvan Dempsey explained.

“Joey is just back into the fold, and is going really, really well. He has started training back, and is looking in good shape,” he said.

“He just wants to get back on the field. He realises that his first stepping stone is to try and get into the Leinster squad, get game-time under his belt, and worry about higher honours further down the line.”

Similarly, there was a positive update on Leinster captain Isa Nacewa who has recovered from the dead leg that he picked up against Montpellier and which forced him off early in the following Champions Cup match against Castres.

However, the news was not so positive for Rhys Ruddock and Tom Daly. Ruddock is struggling with a quad injury and will not be involved this weekend, while Daly injured the medial ligament in his knee playing for Lansdowne in Ulster Bank League Division 1A and will be out for six weeks.

Dempsey confimed: “It (Ruddock’s injury) is not significant. It’s a slight tear on his quad. He’s doing rehab at the moment, he’s doing a good bit of work.

“It’s something that he has just picked up a couple of weeks ago. He’s been fortunate enough that we’ve had that time off, and he’s had that opportunity to work through it. He’s out this weekend.”
