Irish Rugby TV: Scotland v Ireland – Post-Match Reaction

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt, captain Rory Best and top carrier CJ Stander all spoke of their disappointment with the team performance following the 27-22 defeat to Scotland in Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations opener at BT Murrayfield.

“We were sluggish. I think we got some really good field position in that first half and didn’t convert. That was frustrating, and at the same time, I felt that Scotland got too much room to move and we missed tackles” – Joe Schmidt

“We let ourselves down, particularly at the breakdown and the lineout. They scored three easy tries and it’s tough to come back from that. Second half we came out and did our best but it wasn’t enough. They closed out the game and got the win” – CJ Stander

“We let go of it a bit in the third period of the game, so just to grab it back was so pleasing. The lineout started to function again, we put them under pressure and picked up a couple of penalties. That’s what really brought us home, it was a great team effort” – Greig Laidlaw
