Exiles Regional Screening Days Announced

Did you know that a future in Irish Rugby could be yours? If you are based outside of Ireland, and are Irish qualified, why not follow in the footsteps of Sam Arnold or Kieran Marmion?

The Irish Exiles are holding regional days across the UK for players born in 1999, 2000 or 2001. This is an introduction to IRFU Exiles rugby and we would like to invite any eligible players down to enjoy the days.

Kieran Marmion, current Connacht scrum half, advanced through the IRFU Exiles programme.

Marmion, who has won six caps for Ireland, credits his 2011 call up to the Ireland Under-20 squad to his involvement with the Exiles. “The IRFU Exiles gave me a great opportunity to take my career to another level. I enjoyed pulling on the Exiles jersey whenever possible as it was a chance to be seen,” he said.

The purpose of the screening days is primarily player identification and development and consist of training sessions and matches.

Players identified at the sessions will be invited to play in the IRFU Exiles Inter-Regional Championship, with some players being invited to attend the IRFU Exiles National Assessment Camp, and potentially moving on to play for the provinces in Ireland.

Talent Identification Officer Wayne Mitchell believes the regional programme provides a great opportunity for any Irish-qualified players based in the UK to come and showcase their potential talent.

“The opportunity to put on a green Ireland international jersey is a reality and for some players in attendance it is only a few months away,” he said.

Lunch and refreshments are provided on the day at no cost and the boys will be coached by some of the finest Irish coaches. So why not register now for any one of our five regional days coming up over the UK. Days usually begin at 10am and are finished by approx. 4pm. A full detailed pack will be sent to all registered players prior to regional days.
