Ready, Steady, Cook: Women’s Sevens Squad Cook Up A Storm

Were they MasterChefs or was it a case of ‘Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook’? Find out what happened when our Women’s Sevens stars went on a cookery course.

Over the past month, members of the Ireland Women’s 15-a-side and Sevens squads have taken part in cookery classes as part of a joint initiative between the IRFU and IRUPA.

The courses have been run in Hook and Ladder in Limerick and in Ringsend College, Dublin, and they were developed to get players engaged with cooking and nutrition.

Nora Ni Fhlannagain, Performance Nutritionist with the IRFU said: “The Irish rugby players have very hectic schedules, so good cooking skills are essential to make sure they can nourish their bodies to fuel themselves for their sport and to recover after training.”

The courses were initiated in response to a needs assessment survey that IRUPA conducted with the players. All of the dishes that the players made were developed in conjunction with the IRFU High Performance Department and Chef Keith Piggott of Hook and Ladder Cookery School.
