Ireland’s Sevens Teams Face Olympic Challenge

Ireland’s Sevens teams face some tough challenges in their quest to qualify for the Olympics following the draw today for the Global Qualifying tournaments in Monaco and Dublin.

The Women’s qualifying tournament takes place in UCD on June 25 and 26 and while Ireland will have to wait until after this coming weekend to know their final group, all four pools offer a challenge.

Ireland, Spain and Russia will be seeded for the tournament based on where they finish in the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series which concludes in Clermont-Ferrand this weekend.

Ireland are currently 12th with Spain holding ninth place and Russia in sixth. Should the teams finish this way after the weekend then the girls in green will be placed in Pool C alongside China, Portugal and Trinidad & Tobago
