Ryan To Miss Munster’s Crunch Clash With Edinburgh

Munster continue their preparations for this Friday’s crucial GUINNESS PRO12 encounter with Edinburgh in Cork (kick-off 7.35pm), while, on the club front, there was strong Academy representation in the weekend’s Ulster Bank League play-off action.

The Munster players and management gathered in UL today for the first squad session of the week, with head coach Anthony Foley set to name his side to face Edinburgh at midday on Thursday.

In terms of injuries, there was positive news for Dave O’Callaghan (knee bruising), Dave Foley (ankle) and Shane Buckley (hip pointer) with all three returning to full training this week.

However, Donnacha Ryan has been ruled out of contention for the Edinburgh game as he continues to be monitored by the medical staff for a concussion he sustained against Connacht. Mario Sagario also joins the rehabilitation group after sustaining an ankle injury during training.

BJ Botha (knee), Mark Chisholm (concussion), Tyler Bleyendaal (quad), Denis Hurley (calf), Kevin O’Byrne (knee) and Peter O’Mahony (ACL) all continue to follow their respective rehabilitation programmes.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Friday that Jordan Coghlan will leave the province at the end of the season. The back rower, who to date has made eight PRO12 appearances for Munster, will move to Nottingham Rugby for the 2016/17 season.

In club action, a total of eight Munster Academy players featured as Cork Constitution and Young Munster went head to head at Temple Hill in last Saturday’s Ulster Bank League Division 1A semi-final.

Tomas Quinlan, Ned Hodson, Ryan Foley, Rory Burke and Liam O’Connor overcame their Academy colleagues Dan Goggin, Gearoid Lyons and Ben Kilkenny as Cork Constitution ran out 22-16 winners. The Young Munster backroom team on the day also featured Munster out half Ian Keatley.

Quinlan kicked two conversions and a penalty for the home side, with Lyons landing three penalties and a conversion for the Limerick men. Cork Con will play table toppers Clontarf in the Division 1A decider at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, May 8 (kick-off 2.30pm).
