Ulster Bank League: Division 2A Previews

Division 2A kicks off with a Friday Night Lights derby clash in Nenagh Ormond and a top four slot on the line. The action continues on Saturday in Corinthians, Malone, Skerries and Thomond.

Nenagh Ormond (4^th) v Cashel (5^th), New Ormond Park, Friday Night Lights, 7.30pm
Everything you want in a club match – a floodlit derby, a shot at promotion and a home team out for revenge.

Cashel won 15 – 3 when last they met but Nenagh Ormond lead the way in the table by three points.

The winner is in the top four with one game to left in the regular season – all to play for.

Corinthians (9^th) v Banbridge (1^st), Corinthian Park
Corinthians have won their last two games giving them a lifeline in the race to avoid relegation.

Saturday could be a different prospect as Banbridge come calling with promotion on their minds; that said the home side accounted for Malone recently, almost certainly ending their hopes.

The league leaders were back on form against bottom side Thomond in the last game after recent wobbles against Nenagh Ormond and the chasing Naas.

Malone (6^th) v Naas (2^nd), Gibson Park
The aforementioned loss to Corinthians could well have cost Malone a promotion playoff shot – they are five points off the top four.

Naas have been in flying form beating title contenders Banbridge and UCC in recent weeks.

Form favours the Kildare side on the road; the top slot could well go to the final day.

Skerries (8^th) v UCC (3^rd), Holmpatrick
Going into the weekend Skerries are safe and they’ll want to be in the same position come the final whistle.

UCC’s loss to Naas leaves them in 3^rd place but that’s still a playoff and a shot at promotion so there’s no letting up for the students.

There was only a point in it when they met in September but the Cork side have been the better side over the season.

Thomond (10^th) v Queens (7^th), Liam Fitzgerald Park
One last roll of the dice for Thomond. If they win they can still avoid automatic relegation should Corinthians lose at home.

Not much at stake for Queens and that could just prove the difference, although they won the early season match 17 – 3.

A drama filled end of season for the Limerick side.
