Ulster Bank League: Division 2B Previews

Match of the day in Division 2B has to be the clash between leaders City of Derry and second placed Highfield in Judge’s Road. There’s action elsewhere in Bective, MU Barnhall, Rainey and Sunday’s Well.

Bective Rangers (6^th) v Armagh (5^th), Donnybrook
Bective beat Dungannon in a low scoring game last week to move up to 6^th in the table.

Armagh stayed in 5^th but lost ground to Sunday’s Well as they got a losing bonus point at home.

The visitors will look to bounce back and keep up the chase for a top four slot on the always playable pitch in Donnybrook.

City of Derry (1^st) v Highfield (2^nd), Judge’s Road
A potentially ‘season defining’ game in Division 2B, said City of Derry coach Terry McMaster.

The home side are eleven points clear of their visitors, albeit that Highfield have a game against Rainey in hand.

They are also the only team to beat City of Derry in the league this season – a 29 – 24 win in Woodleigh Park in early November.

Another win for the Cork side would see them reel in their hosts a bit; lose and it’s difficult to see anyone catching City of Derry.

MU Barnhall (9^th) v Dungannon (7^th), Parsonstown
There’s a fifteen point gap from MU Barnhall in 9^th to Seapoint in 10^th so every point matters.

They host Dungannon, a point above them in the standings on Saturday, on the back of an encouraging win over Greystones last Saturday.

The visitors lost on the road last week, they won’t want a repeat this time out.

Rainey (8^th) v Greystones (4^th), Hatrick Park
Neither side will be happy with last weekend – Rainey’s match was postponed so this is their first game in the league since mid-December, while Greystones slipped to 4^th on the back of their loss at home.

Not quite make or break but no less important this weekend for both clubs to make a statement.

It was a cracking game when last they met with the Co. Wicklow side edging it 27 – 24.

Sunday’s Well (3^rd) v Seapoint (10^th), Irish Independent Park
All’s well in the Well of late. You have to go back to September to find their last loss in the league.

On Saturday they face a side they have beaten (20 – 7) already this season and there is the prospect of taking 2^nd place in the table should City of Derry win at home.

The visitors remain winless in a thankless season for them – a time to learn lessons and rebuild.
