Hamstring Injury Sidelines McCartney For Six Weeks

Following their GUINNESS PRO12 win at home to Benetton Treviso, Connacht’s attention now turns to the European Challenge Cup and this week’s trip to Russia for the round 1 clash with Enisei STM.

Also taking place next Saturday is the opening fixture of the British & Irish Cup as Connacht Eagles welcome Welsh side Dragons Select for a 2.30pm kick-off at the Sportsground.

Ahead of the busy week, the Connacht medical team have provided the following injury update.

Hooker Tom McCartney unfortunately suffered a hamstring tear when scoring his side’s second try against Treviso on Friday night. The 30-year-old New Zealander s expected to be unavailable for up to six weeks.

Scrum half John Cooney will see a surgeon this week to examine the extent of a shoulder subluxation. The 25-year-old is unavailable this week.

Matt Healy, who ran in the province’s third and final try against the Italians, is unavailable this week having incurred a joint sprain to his hip on Friday.

Nathan White was concussed during the first half of Friday’s game and subsequently removed from the pitch. The Ireland prop had mild symptoms today and will continue to follow the return-to-play protocols.

Meanwhile, second row Quinn Roux had surgery last week to repair the nasal fracture he suffered in the recent home win over Edinburgh. He is expected to return to action in three weeks’ time.
