Under-13 Girls Rugby Kicks Off In Connacht

Five Under-13 Girls teams took to the pitches for the first time in Connacht Rugby’s history last Saturday morning in Tuam RFC. Monivea, Corinthians, Westport, Ballinasloe and Portumna all played each other in the first of three blitzes scheduled before Christmas.

Wendy Hickey, WCRO for Connacht Rugby, was delighted with the turnout. “Having Under-13s this season is something I was looking to pilot to see if it would be successful,” she said.

“We currently have 14 mini clubs as well as many Under-15 teams, and some girls fall between both categories, so it was an ideal opportunity to pilot it and it turned out to be a great success.

“Many thanks to the five clubs for taking part, and especially to Tuam RFC for the use of their facilities on the day.”

The next blitz is scheduled for Saturday, November 28, with the venue to be confirmed. Any queries, please contact wendy.hickey@connachtrugby.ie.
