Jones And Archer To Miss Munster’s Clash With Cardiff

Munster continued preparations today for the resumption of the GUINNESS PRO12 and enjoyed the first squad session of the week in the autumn sun at Cork IT.

The province’s head coach Anthony Foley spoke with media following the session and gave an injury update ahead of Saturday’s round 4 clash with Cardiff Blues at Irish Independent Park (kick-off 1.30pm).

Sidelined for the game are full-back Felix Jones and prop Stephen Archer who sustained bangs to the neck in the win over Glasgow Warriors almost a fortnight ago. They will continue to be assessed by Munster medical staff.

There was positive news for backs Denis Hurley, Tomas O’Leary and Ronan O’Mahony with all three taking a full part in training today.

Squad captain Peter O’Mahony was a welcome addition to this morning’s squad meeting. With a knee ligament injury – sustained in Ireland’s Pool D victory over France last Sunday – ending his Rugby World Cup involvement, O’Mahony has returned to the province and will work in tandem with Ireland and Munster medical staff in completing his rehabilitation.

While the full extent of the injury is not yet known, Foley did confirm that he expects the skipper to be sidelined for a number of months.

Meanwhile, Tommy O’Donnell (hip), Billy Holland (ankle), Johnny Holland (hamstring) and Peter McCabe (pectoral muscle) all continue to follow their respective rehab programmes.

Munster return to PRO12 action in Cork this coming Saturday at 1.30pm. Adult tickets start from €;15 while all accompanied kids go free!

Match tickets can be purchased online here, from the Munster Rugby Ticket Offices at Irish Independent Park and Thomond Park, or by calling 0818 719 300.
