New Safeguarding Policy Launched

The IRFU recently published our 2015 Safeguarding Policy. The document contains updated procedures which are in line with the proposed Children First legislation and Sport Councils’ guidelines for young people.

The focus is on creating a safe and fun environment in which age-grade players can thrive based on up-to-date research and current best practice.

The specific updates include:

  • Centralised Vetting through IRFU
  • Club Action Plan for Club Welfare Officers to implement best practice across Age-Grade Rugby
  • Emphasis on safeguarding the welfare of Age-Grade Players with specific focus on tackling bullying, the primary concern for athletes under 18-years of age.

Workshops have already taken place around the country to inform clubs of required changes, including modifications to the vetting process that have come into effect.

Factsheets and information, which will be regularly updated, are available on the IRFU website to assist clubs in implementing the best safeguarding practice.

The IRFU Safeguarding policy is available at www.irishrugby.ie/safeguarding.

The IRFU Safeguarding Policy will be updated every two years (next update August 2017).
