Inaugural Aon IRFU Women’s Club Sevens Announced

Just weeks after the IRFU announced that Women’s Sevens Dublin will bring international Women’s Sevens to Ireland for the first time (August 22 and 23, UCD), the Union have released details of the inaugural Aon IRFU Women’s Club Sevens tournament for senior, junior and Under-18 Women’s teams.

Aon IRFU Women’s Club Sevens will take place at St. Mary’s College RFC on Saturday, August 8th, with €;5,000 in prize money on offer across senior (1st €;2,000, 2nd €;1,000), junior (1st €;1,000, 2nd €;500) and Under 18s (1st €;500, 2nd IRFU rugby equipment).

Teams interested in participating in the event can find out more information (including tournament regulations) by emailing Justin Deegan.

Nora Stapleton, IRFU Women and Girls Development Executive, said: “With the profile and interest in Women’s rugby increasing all the time, we hope that this tournament – targeted exclusively at female participation – will encourage more women and girls to give rugby a try

The next few weeks will see many clubs hosting open days where new players can sample rugby and this tournament is an excellent way to kick start the new season.

We would love to see men and women come along on the day to support the teams and while the day will be all about fun, fitness and friends, the prize money that Aon have put together is sure to offer some added spice and competition to the day.”
