Wolfhounds Squad Selected For Final GB7s Stage

The Ireland Wolfhounds squad to play in the third and final stage of the GB7s Tour in north Wales on Saturday has been named.

The Ireland Wolfhounds have been drawn in Pool A, along with Samurai, Co-Optimist and Welsh Charitables, for the tournament at Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay.

The Wolfhounds are third in the overall Tour standings with 37 points (6 wins, +10 try difference and +54 points difference). Samurai lead the way currently with 39 points (7 wins, +17 try difference and +98 points difference), just ahead of the Wailers (39 points, 7 wins, +6 try difference and +40 points difference).

The selected Irish panel includes players who featured in last weekend’s GB7s Tour stage in Coventry as well as nine members of Ireland’s Rugby Europe Sevens Division C title-winning squadAdam Byrne, Aaron Cairns, Shane Layden, Gearoid Lyons, Diarmaid McCarthy, David McGuigan, Harry McNulty, Mark Roche and Alex Wootton.
 
Speaking ahead of the trip to north Wales, Anthony Eddy, IRFU Director of Rugby Sevens, said: “We have had fourth and third place finishes in the last two rounds and we hope to do better again this weekend.

“The competition has been hard and as such, has been a good exercise to pitch ourselves against a strong level.”
