Munster Minis Award Rewards Listowel’s Hard Work

Listowel RFC recently received the Mini Section of the Year award from Munster Rugby at a special awards ceremony which took place at the Maryborough Hotel in Cork.

This is a hugely prestigious award for Listowel RFC to win and reflects the great work that is being done by the club in developing rugby in the North Kerry area for this young age group. The club was chosen from 72 rugby clubs that play rugby in all of Munster. The Minis section cover the age groups from 6 years up to 12 years of age.

Listowel RFC won this award based on a number of objective criteria such as numbers of players registered, coach accreditation and also their playing programme.

It just shows the progress the club has made over the last number of years in this area. This hard work has now been officially recognised by Munster Rugby which is a fantastic accolade.

Listowel’s Minis director Ornagh Ferris (pictured below with Munster Rugby’s Joe Murphy and CJ Stander) was thrilled to receive the award on the day. She said: “This is an amazing achievement to be picked out of 72 clubs in Munster. This is thanks to all the great effort of our coaches who ensure they keep up to date with training and have an excellent relationship with our players, their dedication to be there week in and week out no matter the weather is second to none. I would also like to thank the parents for their support as we would not have won this award without it.”

Andy Smith, Chairman of Listowel RFC, added: “I would also like to thank the rest of the club for its great support of the Minis section and the willingness of coaches from other sections to help us whenever we needed it.

“Local businesses also helped us enormously which we greatly appreciate. I want to give a special thanks to the Community Centre who allowed us to use their facilities throughout the year to cater for visiting teams and parents.”

Children are welcome to try rugby at Listowel RFC’s Summer Camp from August 4-7 at the Town Park, Listowel (registration on August 4, 9.45am to 10am). Any queries, please contact Ornagh Ferris on 0878134114. Listowel’s mini rugby training recommences on Saturday, September 5 at the Town Park.
