Cronin Ruled Out For 12 Weeks After Shoulder Surgery

Sean Cronin will join fellow Leinster and Ireland front rower Martin Moore in missing the rest of the season. The 28-year-old hooker has undergone shoulder surgery and is facing a 12 week lay-off.

A statement issued by Leinster Rugby confirmed that Sean Cronin ‘has this afternoon undergone surgery to repair damage to a tendon in his left shoulder, following medical advice’.

“The operation has gone well but he will miss the rest of the Leinster Rugby season which involves games against Benetton Treviso and Edinburgh in the GUINNESS PRO12. The expected rehabilitation period is 12 weeks,” the statement concluded.

Cronin played 20 times for Leinster this season, including eight appearances in the European Champions Cup, and picked up his second successive RBS 6 Nations winners’ medal with Ireland last month.

The Limerick man played in all eight of Ireland’s Tests this season between the GUINNESS Series and the successful Championship title defence. He made his seventh international start in last November’s win over South Africa.

Once his rehab period has been completed, he will be aiming to be back in the green jersey for the Rugby World Cup warm-up matches in August and September.
