Ulster Confirm Season-Ending Injury For Boys

Ulster have issued an update on the injuries in their squad ahead of next weekend’s GUINNESS PRO12 clash with the Newport Gwent Dragons at Rodney Parade.

Prop Wiehahn Herbst suffered cramp in his hamstring during last Friday night’s win over the Scarlets at Kingspan Stadium. He is now recovered and will be available for the game against the Dragons.

Ireland international Robbie Diack has recovered from the back injury that has kept him out of rugby for the past fortnight and will also be available for the trip to Newport.

Meanwhile, fellow international Paddy Jackson saw a specialist this afternoon who reviewed the progress that the Ulster out-half has made since dislocating his elbow against Toulon in January.

Following the positive consultation, Jackson will return to appropriate training tomorrow with a view to being back in action after the upcoming GUINNESS PRO12 break.

Recent short-term signing Tim Boys unfortunately suffered a tendon injury to a toe in his left foot in training last week. The New Zealander underwent surgery on Wednesday and will be out for the rest of the season.

Commenting on the injury to Boys, Ulster team manager Bryn Cunningham said: “It is disappointing for both the province and the individual when a player is brought in as cover and sustains an injury that sidelines him for the duration of his short-term contract.

“It is particularly frustrating for all involved when they get through the initial bedding in period, become accustomed to the squad and the calling structures and are ready to integrate into the matchday 23, only to get injured that week.

“For this to happen to both Ronald Raaymakers, earlier in the season, and now Tim is exceptionally unfortunate.”
