Trimble To Miss Rest Of The Season

Ulster and Ireland winger Andrew Trimble will miss the rest of this season following confirmation that he has suffered a recurrence of the toe injury that he sustained in October against Glasgow Warriors.

An Ulster Rugby statement confirmed: “Andrew Trimble underwent surgery in London today and is expected to be out of rugby until the summer. It is anticipated that he will make a full recovery ahead of pre-season and the Rugby World Cup.”

Trimble was a key member of Ireland’s 2014 RBS 6 Nations-Championship winning team, and won the IRUPA Players’ Player of the Year, Ulster Rugby Player of the Year and GUINNESS Rugby Writers’ Player of the Year awards last season.

The 30-year-old has scored five tries in his last eight outings for Ireland, but missed November’s GUINNESS Series and the current RBS 6 Nations campaign due to a toe injury.

He suffered ‘significant ligament damage’ to his big toe during Ulster’s GUINNESS PRO12 win over Glasgow Warriors at Kingspan Stadium on October 11 and has not played since then. It was very unfortunate timing as he had started the current season by scoring four tries in six games for the province.
