McCartney Named Connacht’s Player Of The Month

Connacht front row forward Tom McCartney has been named the province’s Player of the Month for December in association with Hartmanns Jewellers and Seiko Watches.

Tom McCartney, who arrived at Connacht in early November from Super Rugby side Auckland Blues, was selected as one of three nominees by the management team for his hard work and commitment both on and off the pitch during the month of December.

He was then applauded across social media and won the majority of the votes from the Connacht Rugby supporters.

Last month, McCartney played and started in three out of the province’s four games, including the 42-19 European Challenge Cup win over French club Bayonne at the Sportsground.

Since his arrival, the 29-year-old hooker, who can also switch to loosehead prop, has impressed his team-mates and supporters alike and his consistent performances have contributed greatly to the side’s push for a first ever top six finish in the GUINNESS PRO12.

Commenting on the December Player of the Month, Connacht assistant and forwards coach Dan McFarland said: “Tom has fitted into the environment very well in the short time that he’s been here and I have really enjoyed working with him. He’s demonstrated not only that he is a top quality rugby player but also a very tough man.”

Richard Hartmann, Director of Hartmann Jewellers, added: “Everyone at Hartmanns is really enjoying the continued success at Connacht Rugby this season and players like Tom have added something really special to our young squad.

“Since his arrival, he seems to have got stuck in straight away on the field and he is a great player to have on our side. We’ve no doubt that we will see Tom collect a few more Player of the Month awards over the coming seasons at Connacht.”

Hartmanns of Galway are the leading store in the west of Ireland stocking a huge array of the world’s top watch and Jewellery brands. They have been long-time supporters of Connacht Rugby.
