Trimble: There’s Plenty To Look Forward To In 2015

Andrew Trimble doesn’t do New Year’s resolutions. “I don’t stick to them,” he told the Ulster Rugby website. “I decided one year that I was going to get up an hour earlier and be more organised – that lasted a week!”

If Andrew Trimble was a fan of resolutions, this time last year he might have set himself the targets of nailing down an Ireland starting place, winning the RBS 6 Nations title and being named IRUPA Players’ Player of the Year and Rugby Writers’ Player of the Year. In 2014 he achieved all that and as we near the end of the year, it will be one that the 30-year-old won’t forget in a hurry.

“It is definitely the most successful year of my rugby career so far,” he agreed. “To have been involved in the Six Nations campaign with Ireland, to produce a little bit of history and to be a part of that was pretty special for me and for everyone who was involved. I am so proud of that.

“I felt like I had started this (current) season really well and then I picked up that (toe) injury, so it has made 2014 a little bittersweet but I am excited about getting back and I am excited about the new year.”

With such a successful 2014, Trimble now has his sights set on what lies ahead in 2015. For him it’s about getting back and returning at the same stellar level he had reached at the end of last season and the start of the current campaign.

“I am just trying to get myself fit at this stage. I want to get myself right and make sure that whenever I do get the chance to get back on the pitch that I am ready to perform and that I will pick up where I left off. That’s all that I am thinking about at the minute.

“There are obviously a lot of things going on in 2015 with the World Cup, Six Nations and the PRO12 with Ulster, so there is plenty to look forward to,” he added.

If he reaches the heights of 2014 again, there will certainly be plenty for Ulster and Ireland rugby fans to look forward to.
