Shoulder Injury Rules Moore Out For Three Months

Leinster and Ireland have been dealt another injury blow with the news that prop Martin Moore, who injured his shoulder against Zebre, has been ruled out for the next three months.

Speaking to the media today, Leinster forwards coach Leo Cullen confirmed that Martin Moore will be out for ‘around 12 weeks’ with the shoulder injury he suffered during the first half of Saturday’s game against Zebre.

“Marty got a bang on his shoulder. He’s with a specialist at the moment but it looks like he will probably be out for around 12 weeks,” said Cullen.

“It’s tough on Marty. He’s been going really, really well for us, worked very, very hard over pre-season to get himself in good shape. It’s going to be a big loss.”

The lay-off means Moore will miss some crucial games for Leinster in the GUINNESS PRO12 and European Champions Cup, as well as Ireland’s three GUINNESS Series clashes next month.

The 23-year-old tighthead made his Ireland debut off the bench against Scotland last February and played in all five matches of the Six Nations-title winning campaign.

Tweeting about his injury, Moore wrote: “Thanks to everyone for the messages of support. Looking forward to getting back on the field in January.”

The young front rower damaged his shoulder after going into contact with Zebre’s Guglielmo Palazzani, with Cullen adding: “I’m not too sure whatever way he twisted his shoulder in the contact. It’s definitely a bit of a loss, but he was just carrying the ball in to contact.”

Despite the loss Moore, there are still options available for Leinster at tighthead for the visit of Wasps this weekend.

“Michael Bent came on at the weekend (against Zebre), Mike Ross wasn’t involved at the game but he will come back into the mix and Tadhg Furlong wasn’t involved either. So we’ve still got the three of those guys there.”

Leinster face Wasps this Sunday evening at the RDS (kick-off 5.15pm). Click here to get your ticket(s).
