In-Form Tuohy Suffers Injury Blow

Ulster lock Dan Tuohy sustained an injury to his right arm during the province’s 26-9 victory over Cardiff Blues in the GUINNESS PRO12 last night.

A scan today revealed that Dan Tuohy’s arm is fractured and that he will require surgery. It is expected that he will be out of rugby for up to 12 weeks.

It is a cruel blow for the second row who had started the new season in excellent form with three starts and three successive tries in the GUINNESS PRO12.

The lay-off means Tuohy is ruled out of contention for Ireland’s GUINNESS Series games in November, in addition to the start of the European Rugby Champions Cup next month.

He played twice during this year’s successful Six Nations campaign, starting the home win over Scotland in February but his season was then curtailed by arm and hand injuries.

Speaking about Tuohy last night, Ulster defence coach Jonny Bell said: “Dan has been immense for us so far this season and has become our top try scorer. The injury is in the same arm in which he had a plate inserted following a previous injury and it doesn’t look good.

“We don’t want to pre-empt what might happen, but it looks as though he has broken it again. The good thing for us is that we have strength in depth in almost every position this season.

“It will be a huge blow for us if we do lose Dan, but the way the side played in beating a very competitive Cardiff Blues side we are moving in the right direction.”
