Garryowen Lions Ready To Roar At Ravenhill Festival

The Garryowen Lions disability rugby team continues to go from strength to strength, as they prepare to play in next week’s Wooden Spoon International Tag Rugby Festival at Ravenhill.

The Garryowen Lions are closely aligned to the Daughters of Charity service and are now in their third consecutive season of playing rugby together.

The Garryowen team are due to compete in the Wooden Spoon International Tag Rugby Festival at Ravenhill on Saturday, June 7.

Ulster Rugby, with the support of Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby, will host the eighth International Tag Rugby Festival for people with learning disabilities at their Belfast base.

Over 340 players from 44 teams will be taking part, from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and as far away as Hampshire in England.

The teams will start to arrive on Friday, June 6 with the festival running from 11am to 5pm the following day.

Over the past season the Garryowen Lions have been training in Dooradoyle and the University of Limerick every Monday and have played matches against Westmanstown and Mullingar RFC.

The Lions were recent benefactors of a donation from the Shane Geoghegan Memorial tournament. These funds will go towards the purchase of new kit for the upcoming season.
