Ulster Bank League: Division 2B Previews

The title and promotion belong to Nenagh Ormond, but as with Division 2A the question of who will join them goes down to the wire this weekend. The three contenders – Thomond, Skerries and Greystones – are all on the road.

Ards (12th) v Nenagh Ormond (1st), Hamilton Park

The title has been decided and Nenagh Ormond will collect their trophy in Hamilton Park on Saturday regardless of the outcome of this game.

Ards are safe in 12th place and while they will want to sign off with a win the odds are not in their favour. Champions Nenagh Ormond to win.

De La Salle Palmerston (11th) v Thomond (2nd), Kirwan Park

A big game for the visitors. They are tied on 50 points with Skerries and Greystones but with a superior points difference.

The challenge is simple – win and win well and they should take the automatic promotion spot.

Results elsewhere will have a bearing and the home side won’t just make up the numbers!

Midleton (10th) v Armagh (6th), Towns Park

Midleton started the season brightly but results ebbed away from them and they are set for a mid table finish.

Armagh pushed hard to get into the promotion spaces but the games against Greystones and Thomond proved their downfall.

The Ulster side should be a real contender next season.

Richmond (7th) v Navan (8th), Richmond Park

A mid table tussle to with the winner likely to take 7th overall in the Division.

Richmond are the form side, albeit Navan have probably had slightly the harder run in recently.

A home win.

Sligo (13th) v Skerries (3rd), Hamilton Park

The dramatic backdrop of Knocknarea is apt for this game as it could well decide the promotion places.

Skerries need to make up a deficit of nine points if they are to overtake Thomond for the automatic promotion spot.

An away win but will it be enough?

Sunday’s Well (9th) v Greystones (4th), Musgrave Park

Musgrave Park is the setting for yet another game that will affect the final placings and promotion.

Again, the visitors have to win and indeed probably need a bonus point as they are over 50 points behind in the points difference column.

An away win but as in Hamilton Park and Kirwan Park – will it be enough?

Suttonians (16th) v Instonians (15th), JJ McDowell Memorial Grounds

The home side are relegated for next season and will play in the Leinster Junior League.

The visitors face a playoff to maintain their Ulster Bank League status.

That probably gives Inst the edge as they need to keep sharp.

Tullamore (5th) v Boyne (14th), Spollanstown

A win should see Tullamore finish the season in fifth place – a fair reflection of their nine wins.

A tough season for Boyne who had to scrap through the latter half to avoid dropping into danger. They finish well clear of Instonians but they won’t be happy with that.

A home win should see Tullamore the happier side.
