Clontarf To Join Women’s Rugby Revolution

New Girls and Women’s rugby teams are sprouting up all over Ireland as the success of last year’s Grand Slam win continues to be seen in the rise in player numbers. The latest club to get on board is Clontarf in north Dublin.

As the picture above shows, Molly Malone had a small makeover recently as she donned the club kit and headed off for training with the Clontarf Women.

One of Ireland’s great rugby clubs is adding a new chapter to its 140-year history with the creation of Clontarf Women’s Rugby.

It gets underway at 8pm this Friday (February 7) as the management team hold a meeting for prospective players at the club’s Castle Avenue grounds. Training will commence next week.

With the continued success of the Ireland Women’s team there has been increased interest from girls and women who are newcomers to the sport, and also those looking to return to the game.

Clontarf are extremely proud of local star Fiona Coghlan who captained Ireland to Grand Slam glory last season and, in time, the club would hope to bring players through to provincial and national level.

Women over 18 of any level of rugby experience are invited to meet the coaches, physios, conditioning experts and assistants on Friday night, and learn more about Clontarf rugby. Training will commence next week.

So, whatever your level of experience – from absolute beginner to seasoned veteran – come along and be part of the next big thing in Irish sport.
