Munster Prepare For Busy Week With Two Sides In Action

The Munster squad will stay overnight in Limerick tonight as preparations continue for next Saturday’s RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Cardiff Blues at Thomond Park.

The Munster v Cardiff game kicks off at 7.15pm, with Ireland in action earlier in the day against Wales at the Aviva Stadium in the Six Nations (kick-off 2.30pm).

Munster ‘A’ are in action this Friday as they travel to the Sportsground in Galway to take on Connacht Eagles in an interprovincial encounter.

Munster captain Peter O’Mahony and Conor Murray started for Ireland in yesterday’s impressive 28-6 win over Scotland, with their provincial colleague Tommy O’Donnell coming off the bench to make his Six Nations debut.

Ireland captain Paul O’Connell was a late withdrawal with a chest infection, but head coach Joe Schmidt has said that he is confident O’Connell will be back to full fitness tomorrow.

There were a number of Greencore Munster Academy and sub-Academy players involved with the Ireland Under-20s as they overcame their Scottish counterparts on a 34-7 scoreline in Athlone on Friday night.

UL Bohemians number 8 Jack O’Donoghue scored two tries in a man-of-the-match performance.

Cork Constitution duo Max Abbott and Rory Burke started in the front row. Young Munster centre Dan Goggin and Bruff scrum half Jack Cullen both contributed off the bench in a dominant performance.

In the Ulster Bank League, Munster’s Ronan O’Mahony played as Garryowen secured their first win of the campaign against Ballynahinch at Dooradoyle. Academy player Harry McNulty touched down for Garryowen with Shane Buckley also starting.

Gerry Hurley kicked nine points for Cork Con as they edged past league leaders Clontarf 9-8 with Academy player Niall Kenneally also in the Leesiders’ starting line-up.
