Connacht Enjoy Training Visit To Creggs RFC

The Connacht senior squad made the journey to Creggs RFC last Thursday to train and take part in a schools’ open session.

Organised with Roscommon club Creggs RFC, 12 primary and secondary schools travelled from around the county to watch the senior squad train and meet up with Connacht players Denis Buckley, Daniel Qualter, Jack Carty and Shane Layden, who all have Roscommon connections.

The large group of nearly 300 students were then invited onto the pitch to join in with the players for a number of games and rugby drills.

The Connacht coaches and players put the youngsters through their paces before an autograph session and group photo.

During the morning, John Muldoon, Gavin Duffy, David McSharry and Jake Heenan also made the short trip down the road to call in and say hello to the young children of Creggs National School.

Connacht thanked all at Creggs RFC for their hospitality and to the schools, teachers, principals and parents from Colaiste Mhuire, Ballygar, Co. Galway, Roscommon CBS, Glenamaddy Community School, Roscommon Community College, Castlerea Community College, Creggs NS, Co. Galway, Tarmon NS, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, Abbey NS, Roscommon, Kilteevan NS, Roscommon, Clontuskert NS, Roscommon and Threen NS, Castlerea.

This was Connacht’s fourth open training session of the current campaign and follows on from successful trips to Tuam RFC, Westport RFC and Castlebar RFC during pre-season.

This open session forms part of Connacht Rugby’s outreach and engagement programme. Connacht hope to hold an open training session in all five counties of the province this season. Next stops…Sligo and Leitrim!
