Clarke Among Connacht’s Returning Players

The Heineken Cup continues this week and the Connacht squad returned to training yesterday in preparation for round 6 of the European competition.

It is all to play for against Saracens at Allianz Park on Saturday (kick-off 1.35pm) as both sides look to progress and secure a quarter-final spot.

Following last Saturday’s 20-3 victory over Zebre, there were no major injury concerns to worry the Connacht management.

Second row Michael Kearney left the pitch with a shoulder injury in the first half, but the 22-year-old is making good progress and the medical staff are optimistic he will be available towards the end of the week.

There was more good news for Pat Lam’s squad with the return to training of Craig Clarke and Aly Muldowney. Both forwards are available for selection this week.

Craig Ronaldson’s return from injury has also boosted options in the back-line.

Connacht Eagles are in action again this Saturday and welcome Llanelli RFC to the Sportsground (kick-off 2pm) for the final round of the British & Irish Cup’s pool stages.

Mata Fifita was the only injury concern arising from the Eagles’ defeat to Rotherham Titans in the previous round. A shoulder injury has ruled the back rower out of action this week as he awaits the results of an MRI scan.
