Connacht Women’s Invitational Cup

Connacht Rugby are delighted to announce the return of the Connacht Invitational Cup for the third season.

This competition provides an opportunity for women’s clubs of non-AIL level i.e. who are not participating in the National Cup competition, to lengthen their season and play matches against teams they may not ordinarily come up against.

Given the success of last year’s competition, a shield competition (for teams ranked third and fourth after the round robin stages) was inaugurated. This will also run again this season.

At this point in time expressions of interest are being sought and teams are invited to join the competition. Once all entries are received, pool draws and knock-out phases will be drawn and organised.

It is proposed that the list of participants, subsequent fixtures and rules and regulations will be confirmed and publicised a minimum of three weeks before the first day of competition.

The teams for each pool and the fixtures within each pool will be decided by a random draw which will take place on Monday 6th January at 7pm at the Sportsground, Galway.

It is envisaged that the competition’s pool rounds will be contested over at least three weekends, commencing from the end of January. This will be finalised in due course.

In keeping with last year’s occasion, the final will take place at the Sportsgrounds, Galway City.

If your club is interested in participating in the 2014 Connacht Invitational Cup, or have any queries about the competition, please respond by Friday, 3rd January, 2014 to the committee’s Competitions Coordinator, Carol Staunton
