Handing Back History

Grand Slam winners Fiona Coghlan and Nora Stapelton have returned the Women’s RBS 6 Nations trophy to Chief Executive John Feehan at the Six Nations offices in Dublin.

The Ireland Women’s squad begin the defence of their Championship title on Friday, January 31, 2014 when they take on Scotland in Ashbourne with the game due to be streamed live on IrishRugby.ie.

Since winning the tournament back in March the girls in green and the trophy have been busy promoting the growth of Women’s rugby across the four provinces.

The trophy visited over 200 clubs, schools, universities, events and awards ceremonies since it was brought back to Ireland by Philip Doyle’s victorious side in March, travelling over 15,000 miles across the length and breadth of Ireland

An estimated 5,000 photographs have been taken on the tour with trophy, meaning that it needed to be kept clean! Ten polishing cloths and four sets of green RBS ribbons were used during the tour, with an estimated 50 hours spent shining the trophy while on its tour.

Let’s hope we are shining it up again at the end of the 2014 Championship!
