Bangor’s Fantastic Floodlit Festival

The 2013 Bangor Mini Rugby Floodlit Festival took place on Saturday evening at Upritchard Park, Bangor. On a dry, windless night, Primary 5 and 6 teams from Ballyclare, Ballymena, CIYMS, Cooke, Coleraine and Lisburn joined their hosts in playing a series of matches, under floodlights, over a three-hour period.

The quality of rugby was high, the boys demonstrating strong abilities in the core skills of tackling, rucking and passing. The firm, dry pitches, for which the Bangor groundsman Stephen Ferris must be complimented, also permitted flashes of individual brilliance.

Specific mention must go to the hard-fought Bangor v Coleraine P5 match, which is fast becoming the fixture of the season for these two teams.

That only three tries were scored in this match is testament to the competiveness exhibited by the two teams.

Congratulations to the large number of parents, coaches and Bangor senior players who volunteered their time on the night, and in particular the event co-ordinator Andrew Tindle who pulled it all together.
