Muldoon Ruled Out For Six Weeks

The Connacht squad returned to training early this week ahead of Thursday’s departure for Italy for their Heineken Cup round 2 encounter with Zebre on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2.35pm local time/1.35pm Irish time).

Back rower John Muldoon tore his calf in the second half of last Friday’s opening round defeat to Saracens and the Connacht medical team have ruled the Galway native out of action for up to six weeks.

Prop Brett Wilkinson, who also left the pitch in the second period after taking a knock to his quad, was rested yesterday. However, the 29-year-old is expected to return to training today.

Winger Matt Healy and prop Ronan Loughney, who both missed last weekend’s game, are also expected to be fit and available for the trip to Parma.

Meanwhile, prop Nathan White (calf) faces another two weeks on the sidelines and it has also been confirmed that centre Eoin McKeon (foot) will be out for another five weeks.

But in more positive news, David McSharry and Denis Buckley both featured for the Connacht Eagles in the opening round of the British & Irish Cup.

The pair came through the full 80 minutes against  Llanelli and will continue to be monitored in the coming days ahead of Friday’s team announcement.

The Eagles welcome Rotherham Titans to the Sportsground on Saturday afternoon. The British & Irish Cup round 2 fixture kicks off at 2.30pm and the team will also be announced on Friday.
