Belvo Ladies Lead The Way

Four wins out of four sees the Old Belvedere Ladies four points clear at the top of the Women’s All Ireland League. Grassroots website knockon.ie gives us a round up of the weekend action.

Old Belevedere remain in the driving seat as they humbled Blackrock with a bonus point win at Stradbrook Road.

Following their first defeat of the season, Blackrock now slip to third in the table behind Highfield after the Cork outfit handed UL Bohemians their second defeat in as many weeks.

While Belvo are now four points clear of their nearest rivals, there is only three points separating the next three teams and with three more rounds left, league standings are far from finalised.

Expect more drama in the top half in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, it’s as-you-were in the second half of the table with Portlaoise and Tralee still on the hunt for wins after succumbing to St. Mary’s and Galwegians respectively.

Portlaoise showed a massive improvement in recent form to come within a few points of their opponents, while Tralee, at a noticeable loss without their Irish 7s representatives this weekend, incurred their biggest loss to Galwegians to date.

Just as the chase for the top spot is becoming even more dramatic, so too is the fight to avoid relegation, a cause that will take on more meaning next weekend when the bottom two come face-to-face.

Blackrock 7 – 34 Old Belvedere
Galwegians 29 – 8 Tralee
Portlaoise 12 – 22 St. Mary’s
UL Bohemians 10 – 27 Highfield
