O’Mahony On Course For Munster

Peter O’Mahony is on course to captain Munster in their Heineken Cup opener away to Edinburgh this Saturday, having no ill-effects from the knock to the head he suffered against Leinster.

The Munster senior squad and ‘A’ squad are training in Limerick today as both sides prepare for their respective competitions at the weekend.

Munster kick off the Heineken Cup campaign against Edinburgh on Saturday at Murrayfield (kick-off 1.35pm), while the province’s ‘A’ side open their British & Irish Cup run against Stirling County at 5pm in Bandon RFC.

Munster captain Peter O’Mahony, who collided with Sean Cronin’s knee while making a tackle in the 38th minute of the Munster v Leinster game, was replaced at half-time as a precautionary measure.

Following on from this, the province’s medical staff are following the standard ‘return to play’ protocol which will see O’Mahony integrated back into training as the week develops.

Gerry Hurley, who captained the Munster ‘A’ squad against Connacht Eagles last month, has been ruled out of contention for this weekend’s British & Irish Cup opener.

Scrum half Hurley will undergo surgery today after dislocating his right index finger at training last week, and may be out of contention for up to 12 weeks.

Meanwhile, second row Ian Nagle, who sustained a tendon injury in his left foot against Zebre recently, met with the orthopaedic surgeon yesterday for an update, and from this will continue with his rehabilitation process.
