Henry Helps Malone Girls To ‘Give It A Try’

Ulster and Ireland star Chris Henry was in Malone RFC recently as a host of new girls decided to give rugby a try.

Chris Henry, head coach John Murray and Club Development Officer Sam McBurney were delighted with the turn-out and were impressed with the attitude and commitment of the girls many of whom were new to the game.

The Women’s Six Nations trophy, currently held by the Ireland Women’s team was on show and the girls (and parents) took the opportunity for photographs with the cup and with Chris.

The afternoon ended with a barbecue and the girls, their parents, coaches and club members joined in.

Chris, who started his rugby career as a Malone RFC mini, promised to come back and help out with future training sessions.

Malone girls have been the most successful girls section in Ulster Rugby and have been playing for six years, some going on to play for Ulster and Ireland.

The girls train on Wednesday nights – 7pm-8.30pm – and on Sundays – 2-4pm – when there is no game. Beginners are always welcome and are needed to maintain the tradition.
