Schmidt Sets SAFE Standard For First Aid

Joe Schmidt was amongst the IRFU staff brushing up in his first aid skills as part an IRFU SAFE Rugby Course in the Aviva Stadium recently.

The latest course took place this week in the Aviva Stadium with the line-up including Ireland coaches Joe Schmidt, Les Kiss and John Plumtree along with Jon Skurr, the coach of the Irish Women’s Sevens side.

Course attendees were provided with the latest information on the areas of basic life support, defibrillator use, concussion, and orthopedic/spinal injuries, as well as matchday preparation.

Last weekend twenty medical practitioners from the Leinster area undertook the SAFE Rugby Level 2 Course, also in the Aviva Stadium, as they prepare for the start of the new season.

Level 1 courses are for non-medical personnel involved in clubs and schools.

If your club or school is interested in hosting a course, please contact the IRFU First Aid and Injury Prevention Officer Shane Mooney (shane.mooney@irfu.ie).

Level 2 courses are for medical professionals involved in clubs and schools, and the next course will take place on Sunday, September 29 at the home of Connacht Rugby – the Sportsground in Galway.
