Munster Duo Return Home For Scans

The Munster squad moved from their Parma base to their Lake Garda training centre on Saturday morning and underwent a recovery session on Sunday with match reviews completed.

Full training sessions have been scheduled for today and Tuesday with Rob Penney’s men transferring to their Treviso hotel on Wednesday in preparation for Friday night’s round 3 game.

Following on from Munster’s 43-21 victory over Zebre, forwards Ian Nagle and Tommy O’Donnell have both returned home and will undergo scans today.

O’Donnell was helped off after 67 minutes having suffered a hyper-extension to his left knee, while Nagle had to come off in the first half due to a sprain in his left foot.

Andrew Conway (groin) has remained on with the squad to see how he develops over the week. James Downey, who played for 40 minutes on Friday, showed no ill-effects following on from his recent quad tear.

Meanwhile, back on home soil, should injury victim Felix Jones will meet with the specialist today to determine the status of his rehabilitation progress.

With Keith Earls, captain Peter O’Mahony and Simon Zebo having no part to play last weekend, it is expected that they will be included in this week’s squad to face Treviso with the team to be finalised on Thursday morning.

Munster have started the new RaboDirect PRO12 season with successive bonus point wins, and head coach Penney was enthused by the 32 points and four tries they scored in the second half of the Zebre game.

We were really struggling in that first half. To give them the lead that we did was very concerning,” said the New Zealander, who watched his charges fall 18-9 behind.

“But the way in which the guys turned that around in the second half made me very proud.”
