Madigan Could Be In The Frame For Leinster

The Leinster squad trained in UCD today ahead of next Saturday’s opening home game of the RaboDirect PRO12 campaign against the Ospreys at the RDS (kick-off 6.15pm).

Aside from the usual bumps and bruises, there are no major concerns from the Leinster medical team arising from last Friday’s bonus point win away to the Scarlets.

Luke Fitzgerald felt some tightness in his groin during the second half of the game in Llanelli and was withdrawn as a precaution.

Tighthead prop Martin Moore, the opening try scorer for the province, received treatment for a cut on his nose which required stitches. It is hoped that both players will be available ahead of Friday’s team announcement.

Fergus McFadden was a late withdrawal for the league opener due to a tight hamstring, but it is expected that the Ireland back will be in the frame this week and he could be joined by fellow Ireland international back Ian Madigan.

Meanwhile, 2013 Lion Sean O’Brien continues to make positive strides with his arm injury and is expected to return over the coming weeks.

Michael Bent (neck), however, is still unavailable and his forward colleague Quinn Roux rolled his ankle in training and is a doubt for Saturday’s clash with the Ospreys.

There were debuts for three players in Wales last weekend – St. Mary’s College winger Darragh Fanning, out-half Jimmy Gopperth, who scored 22 points, and Ireland second row Mike McCarthy.

Over 14,000 tickets have been sold for the Leinster v Ospreys match and tickets are still on sale online here and from Spar Donnybrook as well as Ticketmaster outlets nationwide.
