The new season fast approaches and just as the players get ready for the kick off so too do the medical staff. Members of the provincial and national underage/women’s medical teams underwent a one day SAFE-Rugby Level 3 Refresher course in the AVIVA Stadium this week.
The doctors and chartered physiotherapists took part in a number of lecture based talks and practical skill stations on basic life support, concussion, orthopedic and airway management as well as match day preparation.
The course was facilitated by a team under the guidance of Prof. John Ryan, Leinster Rugby and Shane Mooney, SAFE Rugby Course Co-ordinator.
The Standard Approach to Field Emergencies in Rugby (SAFE Rugby) programme was established to provide emergency care training and skills to medical staff and individuals involved in rugby union.
Level 2 courses for medical professionals involved in clubs and schools will take place on September 7th in the AVIVA Stadium, Dublin and September 29th in the Connacht Sportsground, Galway.
Level 1 courses are for non-medical personnel involved in clubs and schools.
