Women’s Sevens Squads Prepare For Weekend Action

The Ireland Women’s Sevens squad compete in the second leg of the FIRA-AER European Sevens Grand Prix Series in Marbella, Spain this weekend, while the Emerging Ireland Women’s side are in action in England as preparations continue for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow at the end of the month.

A 12-strong squad heads to the second leg of the European Sevens Grand Prix Series in Marbella hoping to improve on their fifth place finish in Brive in the first event.

Jon Skurr’s side have been steadily improving as they find their feet at this level of competition and the aim is to keep that up this weekend in Marbella.

With only a few weeks to go to the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow this is the last chance to test themselves against international opposition.

An Emerging Sevens side under Stan McDowell’s guidance has also been named for the West Country Sevens tournament and they will want to impress if they are to force their way into the World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, registrations are still open for a screening camp for girls for the Under-18 Provincial Sevens squad to take part in the UK School Games later in the summer – click here for more details.
