Grand Slam Trophy At Tuam Extravaganza

There was a special treat for the girls of Presentation Tuam, Mercy Tuam, Scoil Mhuire Oranmore, and Scoil Chroi Naofa Athenry recently when they got their hands on the Women’s RBS 6 Nations trophy at the Tuam RFC rugby extravagnaza.

The Girls’ Rugby Extravaganza took place last week, with approximately 300 girls participating in the blitz.

The girls played the modified Lep (leprechaun) rugby for the two-hour blitz. The Women’s RBS 6 Nations trophy was on display for all the girls to see, which caused great excitement amongst teachers and players alike.

Wendy Hickey, Community Development Officer with Connacht Rugby, was delighted with the turnout on the day. “Tuam RFC started girls mini rugby this year, and we wanted to introduce the rugby into the local schools to increase participation next year,” she said.

“Some good talent was seen on the day, and here’s hoping that they will be looking to join their local rugby club next season.

“I would like to thank Tuam RFC for the ongoing support of the Women’s game, for the use of their facilities and thanks to all the schools and teachers who made the day possible.”
