Ireland Injury Update

Team manager Michael Kearney has confirmed that Jonathan Sexton and Mike McCarthy have been ruled out of Ireland’s upcoming RBS 6 Nations Championship clash with Scotland.

Jonathan Sexton suffered a grade two hamstring tear which forced him from the pitch at the Aviva Stadium last Sunday. Mike McCarthy has a medial ligament strain and will be in a leg brace for at least the next week.

Simon Zebo, who suffered a broken metatarsal in his foot against England, has undergone surgery and is recovering well in Cork. The estimated ten-week recovery period has been confirmed.

In slightly better news for the Ireland squad, both Sean O’Brien (tightened hamstring) and Rob Kearney (dead leg) are recovering well and trained in camp today.

Donnacha Ryan is recovering well from his back injury, while Brian O’Driscoll picked up a minor soft tissue injury to his right ankle and also trained today.
