In Pics: Beach Tag at Strandhill, Co.Sligo

The much anticipated IRFU Volkswagen Beach Tag started well on Connacht coast last weekend and was followed by a post-match party to remember, hosted at one of Ireland’s top tag venues, Sligo RFC.

As Ireland was enveloped in uncertain weather pockets, Culleenamore Beach in Strandhill was the place to be as teams descended on this unspoilt beach for the first beach tag event of the year.

Players, refs and supporters alike all enjoyed what turned out to be a far more clement day than forecast by Met Eireann. Games stuck to schedule and were played in the fun spirit that one expects in this version of Ireland’s fastest growing sport.

Everyone contested three trophies with a surprise waiting afterwards for the team standing out as encapsulating all that tag rugby should entail.

Results were as follows:-

Cup Final – Strandvestites 3 – 2 Thunderstruckers

Plate Final – I’d Tag That 7 – 1 Specifics

Bowl Final – Fairly Lively 5 – 2 LA Hornets

Team of the Day – The Untouchables

Congratulations and thanks to all team who took part as well as massive gratitude to Sligo RFC, Sligo County Council, The Glasshouse Hotel and of course, all the referees who looked after each game so well. The success of events such as this depends so much on all of you!
